Frankenstein Documentary

Posted on November 17, 2017May 6, 2021 by Kate

It was a privilege and great fun to be interviewed by French director Jean-Baptiste Péretié for his upcoming documentary about Frankenstein. Jean-Baptiste, whose other films include La Revanche des Geeks, La Galerie France, and Moi, Candidat, wanted the interview to have a gothic vibe. Luckily, my husband John’s photographic studio was near at hand, replete with Victorian cameras, curiosity cabinets and candelabra, exactly the kind of props Monsieur Baptiste had said to create the desired effect. We met the very charming production team in Ancoats and went to work setting up moody lighting and a vignette of skull and guttering candle. The ensuing discussion of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley and The Monster’s Wife was so much fun that I forgot I was being filmed. We talked about galvanism and electricity, the eccentric lives of the Romantics and the many adaptations of Shelley’s book since its publication.

Look out for what I’m sure will be a spooky and enlightening documentary about Frankenstein coming to a French cinema near you.
